REMEMBRANCE
In fields of red
Where poppies grow
Where those who fell
Lay row on row
Who took their pledge
To save our nation
Let us now stand
In salutation
Where our heroes lay
Their lives cut short
Our freedom gained
From those who fought
Who left behind
Their jobs, their wives
Who paid the price
And lost their lives
Let’s give our silence
Our time to recall
Give thanks for those
Who gave their all
Where crosses stand
To mark their place
Let them be remembered
With honour and grace.
Soldiers of War
Fight the good fight,
Win or lose for a good cause,
The loss of life stays on their minds,
For home and heath they fought,
They fight their cause,
Women and children weep,
The soldier carries the unheard tear,
of things seen and not said,
Remember, remember, my friends in arms,
They died for you all to live this day.
A SOLDIER OF WAR
We are fighting a war and together we stand,
But I’m still on my own, just a lonely man,
Torn away from what was my life,
My friends and family, my home and my wife,
Down in the trenches day after day,
Any thoughts of myself slowly slipping away,
There’s so much destruction, so much blood shed,
The sounds of the planes that fly overhead,
Machine guns fire, round after round,
Bombs that boom and crash to the ground,
Comrades are lost, I watch them die,
But there’s no time to grieve and no time to cry,
I hear them coming, the enemy is near,
I search for the courage and banish my fear,
Thoughts of my own death go through my mind,
The life that I had and have now left behind,
But I must carry on and do what is right,
For the country I love, I will stand and fight,
Then when this is over, and my nation is free,
I’ll take time to remember the man that was me.
